In this episode of Advanced TV Herstory, host Cynthia Bemis Abrams interviews Bryan Johnson, the force behind the wildly successful niche fan website "The Concluding Chapter of Joan Crawford." Cynthia and Bryan discuss the careers of aging Hollywood stars, as depicted FX's "Feud: Bette and Joan." Bryan explains Crawford's late career appearances on TV and why she chose to step back from the public eye.

FX's Feud: Bette and Joan brought fresh perspective to an unspoken aspect of ageism. It was perceived that film greats who appeared on TV shows in the 60s were doing so our of either financial or emotional desperation.  Joan Crawford and countless other stars like Bette Davis, Barbara Stanwyck, John Wayne and others guested on talk shows, variety shows and dramatic playhouse style series. Bryan Johnson, serious fan-scholar of legend Joan Crawford's later career talks in depth about what the transition to TV meant for the Crawford and Hollywood women as a whole.
